Gone for a few days...

I spent last weekend + in Nowata, Oklahoma.  It was a bittersweet trip because my Aunt Virginia (my mother's youngest sister) passed away, and I went to Nowata with my sister to attend the funeral.  She was 85 years old and an Alzheimers patient.  I was really glad I was able to go to back.  I was able to re-connect with some of my cousins and another aunt and we really had a wonderful time visiting and catching up.  Down memory lane... We used to visit my grandparents at their house...
It has changed quite a bit, but we loved it.  It was across the street from the city ballpark and we were allowed to walk to Fred's (a store that is now gone) and buy penny candy.
THIS weekend, I helped friends with taxes and made graduation announcements for Bree, Kimmy's friend.
On Saturday, we attended the JSH firm event - this year it was a bowling event...
Tiffany, Katie, Kimmy, and Katie had a great time...
Tiffany especially enjoyed the air blower.  I never realized how much my girls love to bowl.
Busy weekend but a lot of fun and accomplishment.

More of last weekend...

On Sunday, I went to spend some one-on-one time with Kylee...
Kimmy surprised us by showing up at As You Wish.  First we had lunch at Paradise Bakery, then walked over to As You wish.  Kylee painted the ice cream cone trinket box.  Mine is the plate, and Kim painted a butter dish.  I will pick them up on Wednesday after work.
Kylee asked if we could get hot chocolate from Starbucks, so we did just that.  I have to admit they were tasty.  We had a very nice afternoon and Kylee has already informed me she would like to do it again.  :)

Day 2 of the cowboy, a/k/a "Roy"

I set the cowboy up in my office and several times during the morning, someone would stop in and ask "So how's he doing?"  After a few times, I felt it was time to name my cowboy.  "Roy" came to mind and well, you have to admit it is very fitting for a cowboy.  This photo was taken after 45 hours of being in the water:
Roy has grown, but I just don't see him getting to "600%" of his original size.  He is really going to have to have a growth spurt real soon in order to make the 72-hour deadline.  I decided we should have a contest.  So I asked co-workers to guess his height and mark it the container, then put their name beside it.
You can see my guess was pretty optimistic, however, there are two marks above mine.  I think either Pat or Geri may be the winner, but we will have to wait and see.
I will be out for a few days attending the funeral of my aunt, so we won't have the results until I get back.
I just noticed... Roy will never be able to stand on his own two feet...
One leg is markedly shorter than the other!

More of Saturday...

After Sondra's shower, I met Maryanna and Kimmy at
Tempe Marketplace to see...
The Hunger Games.  It was an excellent movie - we all loved it!  It was Kate and Kim who got me to read the book series.  Dinner at Haji-baba's completed the evening.  Home by 7:30 - not too bad.

Sondra's Baby Shower

I have always said that I had a third daughter - Sondra - who is Kate's very good friend.  This last weekend, Kate organized a baby shower for Sondra.  They are having a boy!  Some of the highlights...
 Kate and Sondra...
More of Kate and Sondra...
The gift table...
Toasting their iced coffees...
Kate's roommate, Katie, also helped with the shower and she is really enjoying that iced coffee...
The special glasses used at the shower...
Sondra opening gifts...
The cupcakes - raspberry with lemon frosting - very good!  As you can see, the theme was Dr. Seuss. It was a very nice brunch (I missed getting photos of the breakfast table), with about 20 ladies attending.  We are so happy for Sondra and Dave - can't wait to see the baby!

Day 1 (of growing my cowboy)

I had just placed him in the water and then took this photo...
He looks pretty small...
and the water gives him a distorted look.  Can't wait to see what he looks like in a day.

So does she think I'm lonely?

My friend, Pat, was out and about for lunch this last week, and bought me a "Grow a Cowboy" toy.  I guess you would call it a toy.  Maybe it's a science project.  It expands to 600% of its original size.  Can't wait to see this.  Here's the toy and it's packaging...
Something to note - do not swallow!
The instructions for growing your very own cowboy...
It is a 3-day process, so I am going to put it in water starting Monday morning.  I will post an entry every day so that you all (that's my southern side coming out) can follow the progress with me.  Boy, I sure hope this turns out!  I could always use a cowboy around the house.
