Appropriate for today?

I am sure that most of us ate too much yesterday, so I thought I would share this little cartoon with you.
Happy day after Thanksgiving!

Pinot's Palette - a night of fun!

I didn't go, but my daughter, Kimmy, and her friend, Alisa, spent the evening at Pinot's Palette in Scottsdale taking a painting class.  Of course, Kim found it on Groupon, so they went and had a wonderful time, celebrating Alisa's birthday.  Notice the wine glass?  I volunteered to be the designated driver.
 This is Alisa.
There was an instructor and they all painted the same picture. There were about 50-60 people in the class and they had a wonderful time!  The instructor is at the front of the class and everything is also projected up on TV screens for everyone to see.
Here they are at the end of the night, all smiles, with their paintings.

So are you wondering what I did while they were painting?
We found a movie theater in the area and I went to see the movie Captain Phillips.
It was an excellent movie - one I would recommend seeing.
Tom Hanks, as usual, did a great portrayal of Captain Richard Phillips.

Done! Finished!

I finished the quilt I made for my dad!  Whew Hoo!  I think he will like it because it is a nice sized lap quilt and light weight, but will keep him warm when watching TV or reading a book.  You can see that I machine stitched the edging on this quilt - I have learned that I do not have the patience for hand stitching.  This was so much easier.
 Finished project!
I can't wait for him to see it.

Ever heard of Birch Box?

It is something that my daughters do, you sign up to receive a small box of different types of "goodies" once a month.  These "goodies" are generally healthcare, and beauty products in sample sizes.  It is different every month.  When you sign up, you fill out a questionnaire so they send products more suited for your age, lifestyle, and complexion.  It might be lipstick, lip gloss, nail polish, skin care items, shampoo, conditioner, or maybe even a snack of some sort.  It has been fun to see what they offer.  Kimmy received her box today...
Pulling back the tissue paper is always fun.
So this month, Kimmy received perfume, polish, sample makeup, hair products, and a full candy bar.
With each box comes a a card that tells you about the products.
FUN!

Still working on the lap quilt for my dad...

I put it down not too long before having foot surgery and am just now getting back into it.  Tonight I had to trim off the edges...
I cut the strips for the edging...
I then sewed on the strips... right sides together...
I decided that I am going to sew the edging on by machine, rather than by hand, so I am pinning it for better accuracy.
Right about that time, Sophie decided she wanted to sit on my lap, so production came to a stop.
I'll pick it back up tomorrow night ... and should be able to get it finished.  Yeah!

Should they call her "Grammy"??

My friend, Diana, is now a grandma.  Let's take a little look-see...
It's dinner time, which is a very important time at their house,
but... it is also a lot of work, which makes them tired and sleepy.
These puppies are really new.
The mom actually found Diana and Matt and decided it looked like a nice place to start a family.
Which is exactly what she did.

Junk in the Trunk Vintage Market

Yesterday was a really nice day - tiring, and hot, but still a lot of fun!  Junk in the Trunk sponsored a one-day event - Vintage Market - in Scottsdale on Saturday.  Here are some of the highlights:
My day started off early by leaving the house at 6:00 a.m. to get up to West World.
These photos were taken by me, standing on the outside of the booth area.
It was held in a huge area.
I volunteered to help out at the Grapevine Designs booth...
 which was set up beautifully!
Here we are - Sue, Adriana, and myself.
Sue and Adriana (and her boys) were the ones who worked so hard to get the booth ready.
Some other items that got my attention...
 turquoise bookshelf
 old typewriters
rugs crocheted and woven out of old sheets
clocks made out of door knobs and door plates
 cupcake ornaments
a closer look at the ornaments
A table top Christmas tree made out of costume jewelry (sorry, you'll have to turn your head).
The price tag on this was $225 - spendy, I know.
end tables given a retro look
 lots of signage
a table made out of old pieces of weathered wood
a bowl of sock monkeys - one of my favorite things
and Christmas decorations.
I didn't have much time to walk around but was able to take these few photos.
Yep, it was a really nice day.

ROC Run

What?  Ridiculous Obstacle Challenge! Ever heard of the show Wipe Out?
This challenge run is just like that.
My daughter, Kimmy, and her friend, Georgi, decided to do this together.
Me?  I wanted to go along and give them my support.
Kim and Georgi made tutus for this event, which I thought was crazy.
Notice matching socks - CRAZY socks!
After getting there and seeing the participants,
I see that Kim and Georgi actually fit right in.  Almost everyone wore a costume/get-up of some sort.
Here are just a couple.  Tutus were everywhere - even on guys!
It was such a fun event; you could tell that everyone just wanted to have fun.
Here are my two Super Heros.  Georgi is doing the stance.
Once they actually started the race, I couldn't see them anymore.
So instead I watched the crowd, which was actually quite enjoyable.
I sat at a picnic table under a canopy and waited for them at the finish line.
This is the last obstacle before the finish "slide."  They walked across the tube and hopefully
wouldn't get hit by the big balls (swinging on cranes).
Kim made it all the way across, but Georgi wasn't quite so lucky.  She was so close.
Then down the slide and... all finished!
They also had a foam/suds machine which made it look like snow.
Covered in foam...
Having so much fun!
They had a wonderful, MEMORABLE day
and said they would definitely do it again!
